SONG REVIEW: Meghan Trainor "No"

"All About That Bass" songtress, Meghan Trainor, is back with a taste of "No" from her upcoming album "Thank You," which drops May 13!

Meghan Trainor is everything Carly Rae Jepsen wished she could be. She turned something we all expected to be a one hit wonder into a career that has spanned 5 top fifteen singles, a number one album and a Grammy. Jepsen is still around. However, unlike with Jepsen, we actually still care about Meghan Trainor (at least most of us do after Tori Kelly lost that Grammy to her). Meghan Trainor is an innovator in this decade's musical landscape. Her music has the perfect blend of old school fifties feel with today's pop. Anyone of her hits can be placed in a different decade and probably still be as popular as they are today. She has already heavily influenced Charlie Puth's music and I won't be surprised if there's more to come.

There's a formula that Trainor has and it's working very, very well for her. She makes extremely catchy hooks. Before a day or two ago, I absolutely couldn't stand "NO" but that's not to say it wasn't implemented in my brain since the day it came out. "My name is no, my sign is no, my number is no." It's just the type of thing that gets stuck in your head until you have to listen to the song again (and I have). There was a point in the song (around the three minute mark) where the music just stops. I was actually disappointed because I wanted to hear more of the song. The song of course wasn't over but that's just a testament to the catchiness of the song. Her music also has a very clear message, the empowerment of girls. This song is no exception. It accomplishes the goal of being a catchy song with a great message.

SONG GRADE: A-
