X Factor UK 14: Top 16 (Night 1) Report Card

That was surprisingly very strong and excites me for rest of the season! My only issue is this strange format. Why? I don't even think Dermot knows what's going on.

RAI-ELLE WILLIAMS
"Doo wop/No"
Were the vocals all the way there? Not necessarily. Butnce she works on her breath control she is going to be a force to be reckoned with. She oozed with confidence as she made her way across the stage, effortlessly mashing the two songs up together. It wasn't perfect (the rap was more like a fun shout) but it was absolutely fun! B+

SPENCER SUTHERLAND
"Who You Are"
This was a mixed bag for me. On paper this is a pretty perfect song choice for Spencer considering how well he is able to channel emotions into his song. Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for a decent break in your voice once you hit the top of your register but he sounded like he was struggling after the bridge. B-

HOLLY TANDY
"Hollow"
The staging was awkward and Holly looked very stiff and uncomfortable for a good portion of the performance. A bit mechanical/robotic, if that makes sense. That being said, aside from one crack this was an outstanding vocal performance. She sounded amazing! No one can do this like Tori Kelly but Holly did her thing! B

LEON MALLETT
"Stay"
This was almost the exact opposite of Holly. He seemed pretty comfortable up there but his vocals didn't really go anywhere. The rap was dope, though! C+

ALISAH BONAOBRA
"This Is My Now"
It's kind of funny seeing Sharon stand up for a performance that is an undeniable example of why she claimed she didn't want to bring her to the live shows (because she thought she did too many power ballads). She sounded absolutely stellar, though! A-

SAM BLACK
"Faith"
The stage felt way, way too big for Sam. Once again, on paper this would have been a perfect performance but something felt off or lazy about this. There wasn't enough energy to distract from his alright vocals. The second half was much better than the first. C

GRACE DAVIES
"Too Young"
This was a very engaging performance and she's a fabulous songwriter. I feel like I've seen this performance from her three times already and we're going to see it from her three more times if she makes it that far.  B

LLOYD MACEY
"City of Stars"
He sounded amazing but also quite boring. B-
