Disclaimer: This is a review of the first single off of Camila Cabello's upcoming debut album, "The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving." Everything down below are my personal opinions. I'm in no way affiliated with any corporation, especially Camila Cabello, or Epic and Syco records.
When it was announced Camila Cabello was leaving Fifth Harmony, I think we all let out a soft chuckle. I'm not the biggest fan of the group, but even I could tell that she wasn't really feeling it anymore. Although she gets a lot of flack in the media, I've always admired one thing: her voice. Sure, it comes off as overindulgent and her tone could be argued to be a bit on the annoying side. One thing you can't argue is that home girl has a big voice, that she knows how to use, and a fairly good range.
With remarkably strong production (that beat in the beginning, that vibrates through the song gets me every time) and her a strong connection to the material, Cabello provides a strong debut single as a solo artist. Unlike similar artists going solo after being in successful groups/bands, she sticks to the same type of sound that she's used to. It's a good thing because this sound works for her, I think her voice is tailor made for this type of pop music. Although it masquerades itself as a poppy dance tune, the song gives Cabello the opportunity to pull back while allowing her voice to soar. She's able to explore her impressive range specifically at the end of the bridge. It's a catchy, fun song for the summer that gives her a good starting pad to a successful career as a solo artist.
