What fresh hell was that? Anton must be a cat because he has so many lives of this show. The only really positive thing I could think was thank heavens that no one from Team Grimmie was in the bottom again because both the boys delivered great performances during the live show.
To top this dreadful night off, Max Stone was eliminated. This came as an absolute shock to me. Maybe not an absolute shock. His performance from the night before was actually pretty average if not a little bad. I thought he was flat most of the song and it was just very boring. It was much different than the vibe he had been giving off the previous weeks. Sure his face still looked bored, but he had at least been trying to give off more of a fun vibe (the reggae version of Someone Like You & the peaceful melody of Somewhere over the Rainbow/rearrangement of What a Wonderful World). I thought he had a strong enough fan base that he had room for a mess up performance but apparently not. I'm sure Simon was expecting Anton to at least be in the bottom 3 so this must have been a total shock to Simon and a clear indication of what a shitty night he would be having. We'll miss you, Max!
I got 2 out of the bottom 3 right (thankfully, because I enjoyed Mason this week). The sing off had Monica and Anton battling for the final place in the top 7.
Let's start off with how Monica Michael clearly doesn't have the strongest voice in the competition, but there's something there. Mix that in with her look and her stage presence, you almost forget that she doesn't have that strong of a voice. With songs she has comfort with, she pours so much passion into each of her performances. There was so much strength when she sunk her teeth into the chorus I got goosebumps. You can really tell how much she wants this just through her facial expressions. I thought it was a very strong performance that all but guaranteed she was going to make it through the sing off.
Anton's performances come from a different place than Monica's. That isn't to say he doesn't pour as much emotion into his songs, he just pours the same amount of a different emotion. The smiles he gives during his performances are just infection. Anton has a very strong voices but it's like he doesn't really know when to use it. This song was in his wheelhouse because it wasn't perfect but he performed the hell out of it and that's where his strengths lie. His vibrato is so strong and during the chorus when he was belting his butt off, I just got so confused as to how he never seems to do this well during his actual songs.
I don't understand why the judges didn't go in their usual order for the voting part (two judges with acts in the bottom, then the impartial judges) because clearly after Cheryl sent Anton home, Simon was going to send Monica home that didn't really heed the suspense this show usually goes for. Before we even talk about who went home can we talk about Olly complete flubbing up and telling Monica she was going home after they went to deadlock?! Caroline was like "What show are you on? Cause this one is going to deadlock." My heart nearly fell out when he said that (and so did Monica's). They might as well have just left it at that, though, because Monica was the one who went home anyways.
Monica was a wonderful addition to have on the show, She went out on the best note ever "CLASS OF 2015 X FACTOR, BANG BANG BANG." I'll be sad to see her go, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Especially when there's so much to love about almost everyone else. More X Factor on the next edition of Survivor!
