Gwen's team is absolutely amazing. I can't speak on her as a coach/mentor as much I can speak on her as a judge because I honestly didn't pay much attention to any of the seasons she was on for. But she's very supportive, she gave almost all of her artists standing ovations and she's fun to have around. She also have an amazing team this year.
I love me some Regina Love. When she and Rihanna were talking you could just see how big and wonderful her personality was. Clearly she's your auntie at the barbeque who calls everyone out. Her reaction to getting Hello was adorable. And when she said that if she were to put out a record she would make one like Adele. It warms my heart to see a performer performing a song they would do in the real world because you have all these performers who do songs that cater to the demographic and when they put out an album they don't do well because the audience isn't used to seeing that (Tessanne Chin comes to mind). While I love Regina and everything about her, this performance didn't impress me as much as I was hoping. Her vocal chords sounded very tired (physically, not mentally to my soul). It the beginning I was hoping that she would rock into the groove of the song and she physically did but her voice didn't cater to the softer spots of the song. Hello is a powerful song but it's also a very intimate song and I think her voice is just too uncontrolled and loud for it. The overall affect was beautiful, though. She gets props for being so emotionally connected to the song. Pharrell hit it on the nose speaking on how "moving" and "dramatic" it was, the way she seemed to act out the parts. It was a moving and beautiful performance but her vocals could have been much better. 7/10
KORIN BUKOWSKI
I clearly wasn't a big fan of Korin when I heard her knockout song. She seemed a little stiff to me and she doesn't seem to have that much of a personality to her. Her reaction to chopping her hair off was pretty adorable though, I feel you girl. When she hit the stage tonight she looked breathtakingly goergous and the lighting gave her a goergous background. Her vocal were beautiful. She almost effortlessly switched into her head voice then back down, it was a highlight of the performance. It seemed a bit subtly theatrical, as well. Gwen was right about her when she said she was good with songs that had a lot of substance to it. It made for a quite lovely performance and made me a fan. 7/10
Ellie Lawrence. I can't speak too much on this girl because I only paid attention to the people who made it through to the playoffs because...it's my blog, haha. That being said, this girl had a lot of personality on stage and I love her hair. The song complimented her voice quite well and by the time she hit the chorus it felt like I was at her concert. Her rasp added so many layers when she hit the bridge and everything after that was pretty great. I couldn't tell if her voice cracked or if she was just rasping her life away. It worked, though. Good move bringing her back, Gwen! 7.5/10
I remember this dude clearly because I love the song Turning Tables and he performed that at the Knockouts and knocked it out. He is so cute, when he was talking about that old boyfriend he had so much sass and I just related to that. Gwen was spot on when she gave him a Sam Smith vibe comment. He's the type of guy who will just stand there and give you vocals then tell you to stay mad about it. I thought it was a little too literal to give him a suit that Sam Smith probably wore to the Grammys, but Jefferey looked great so it's cool. His voice fit the song like a glove. Jefferey surprised me when he stepped away from the mic and just sang the living daylights out of this song. Gwen held her face in aw and I felt the same way. I let out a quick "yeesss" when he started growling during the bridge. The best part was how at the end he was able to bring his voice back to the gorgeous tone that was present in the beginning of the song. Lovely. 8/10
Braiden demolished Feeling Good during the Knockouts. There was a subtly to his voice that juxtaposed as he belted out the notes towards the end of his performance. He's cute as a button like your quiet little cousin who's having his Bar Mitzvah but really just wanted to Netflix & Chill with a pizza for his 13th as opposed to having a party. Goddamn I was so excited when Gwen told him she wanted to showcase his vocals I was so excited. It was also a good move trying to give him a song that shows off his emotions, as well. He seems a little flat when he performs. He was hitting those notes but there was a look of boredom on his face, during Feeling Good. Let's just talk about his hair for a second, though. Why is it straight? He has beautiful curls and I'm not sure if he perms it to make it curly but something ain't sweet in the coffee. He was dressed up a little more current, instead of looking like he was stuck in the 50s he looks like hes trapped in the 80s this weeks. It's something, right? When it came to his performance tonight I wasn't a big fan. His vocals didn't seem as tight as they did during his first performance and he looked so bored during the song. When he told Adam he couldn't see him, the look on his face was priceless. And it was funny seeing him with his glasses in the next shot. I wasn't as impressed but maybe it was because I held his last performance to such a high standard but it was alright. Gwen, it wasn't emotional. Nah. He's adorable and who would want to send that face home but I think that's all that's saving him come Wednesday night. 6.5/10
VIKTOR KIRÀLY
VIKTOR KIRÀLY. Okay, so here's my deal with him. I was not paying an ounce of attention to The Voice before last week. I remember I was skimming through the R&B/Soul section of Apple Music and here he was in the top 5 with Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You." I played it and instantly fell in love with his voice. He had so much soul to it. He added so many layers to the song. The minute this man opened his mouth up to sing, I saw heaven. What I will say is I wasn't a fan of hearing him belt out in his falsetto on the live show because it felt like we were at the bottom of the mountain then almost at the top of Mt. Everest. It felt to rushed but when I listened to the studio version, everything fit together so effortlessly and the huskiness of his voice near the end of the song is what completely sold me as a fan of his. I've been following him ever since then, I listened to some of his original music and it was very beautiful, especially his ballads. He has such a soulful voice, he can bring it to any song. During his clip package when he said he wants to be a soul singer, my fanboy heart sunk. Yes. Please. Viktor. Do it. "Ooh, fuck." Is what I said when he did the run in his clip package. Yes, sir. He looked great on stage, he was very smooth and you can tell that he has so much experience just the way he carries himself on The Voice stage. Like it was nothing, he went from his chest voice into falsetto then sunk back down into his chest and I was looking around like, what? His belting is also absolutely gorgeous because he has such a voice on him that hearing his natural voice extend itself is amazing. His falsetto switch ups can get old quickly if he keeps doing the same things in every song but it's just enough to get him by now. 8.5/10
Side note: Blake constantly saying how wonderful it was to watch Gwen's team kick Adam's team' was hilarious.
