Big Brother 19: Week 4 Recap (Sunday)

HOH Competition: #SpaceMeatball
This week's HOH competition had the gang standing on platform on a wall. They have to hold on while they have things poured on them and the wall tilts back and forth. The last person standing becomes this week's Head of Household. Josh and Mark are the first ones to jump off. Raven's glutes and flutes fail on her, at this point Ramses deserves to lose every competition when he keeps his glasses on, the leather on Kevin's body couldn't hold him up any more. Matt also fails the competition. Jess' Asian happy place, the failing glue on her eyelashes, a pep talk from Cody's ghost in a toad suit and envisioning saving a family member at the end of the game wasn't enough to keep her in. As soon as she fell, Dominique jumped after her. If I have to hear the basic squad say "my team" or "our group" one more time, I'm jumped out of a moving ship. The last three, Elena, Jason and Alex make a deal that whoever wins won't put any of them up on the block. After Elena agrees, Jason jumps. Alex and Elena make another deal that if Alex will keep Elena's "people" (unspecified) safe, she'll jump and give it to Alex. Elena jumps and Alex becomes the HOH!

Kevin tells Jason that Alex made a deal not to put any of Elena's friends up on the block. When she comes into the room, she just tells them that they have to play "the game" if they want to stay. When she brings up putting Jessica on the block, there is just this fiery passion behind Jason going "YOU CAN'T, YOU CAN'T. It's scary." There's just something about his delivery of that line that even stressed me out. Mark comes into the room and asks Alex if he's safe and she basically just flashes him the peace sign and leaves. After Jason insists to Alex she should not put Jessica on the block she, in the most kindest of ways, tells him to shut the fuck up because he doesn't know what he's talking about. Although she has no plans to send Jessica home, because there's absolutely no point in sending someone home who isn't a threat to anyone in the house, she wants to put her up on the block to keep the other side of the house happy. If the other side thinks she's being disloyal to them then she, and Jason, are screwed. Alex, in the most iconic of ways, tells Jason that she's going to spread around that there's a rat/snake in the group and break them up so their tight grip on the house becomes a little looser.

Alex spends the rest of the episode trying to make everyone happy, while also trying to make moves that will push her game forward. Jessica makes a fabulous point that Alex can spend the week trying to make the basic squad happy by sending her home, but they will end up turning on her if it comes down to the wire since she's not really "in" with them. Not only is that a good point but, at this point, it's almost guaranteed that Cody (against Jillian and Cameron, so far) will win the Battle Back competition. If Alex remains in Jessica's good graces and Cody ends up winning HOH, Alex can join their squad and continue to build their numbers with anyone in the house who's name isn't Paul or Dominique and not in a showmance. She meets with Elena, who asks her to save Mark, Raven, Dominique, Matt and Paul. The second she saw Elena, she should have said "girl, look. you have three names. go." and that would have been the end of my meeting with Elena. For some reason, after Alex flat out spots on Mark and Dominique's names as her two top choices to put on the block against Jessica, Elena thinks the two of them are the two people in the house with the most guaranteed amount of safety. Girl, please.

Paul, sis, you need to eat a brownie. I don't know if he needs to put some perm on his vocal chords so they can relax, but every time I see Paul in a confessional, shouting at the camera like he doesn't have a mic on, I want to throw a pie in his face. Did the producers forget about you, baby? Do you not have a microphone? The camera is right in front of you, we don't need to hear you scream at the top of your lungs. The way the house is wrapped around his finger makes me want to do a pratfall. Cody leaked some information to Paul before he left the house, telling him that Mark and Dominique knew about his plans to backdoor him. Apparently Paul was the "mastermind" behind Kevin voting to evict Ramses last week. Neither of them wanted Ramses out of the house. Paul was quite literally turning himself into a spoon to stir up some "chaos" in the house.

After Mark fails the competition, Paul whispers in his ear and plants seeds of doubt in Mark's mind about the rest of the house pretending to be concerned about who the heck would still want Cody in the house. Even though I could see why she would have voted to keep him, I wouldn't be surprised if Paul convinced Christmas to vote Ramses out too. He meets with Alex, after saying in his confessional flat out that he wants to manipulate her into allowing him to pick the targets this week: Dominique and Mark. But Paul is kind of just being a teenager's bedroom this week. Messy. I would even go as far to say he's being messy boots. Right after he tells Alex that Dominique and Mark are sketchy, he goes to them and tells them that Cody told him that they knew he was going to backdoor him. He tells them he didn't believe him to create the allusion that he's still on their side, while saying in his confessional (three seconds later) that he wants to make the house go as crazy as possible so he can stay under the radar after the pendent of protection wears off after this week. He ends up convincing Alex to put Dominique up over Mark because Dominique has a stronger social game and she's a better competitor than Mark is. Mark becomes the backup plan if Dominique pulls herself off.

Everything else is just filler. Raven has a disease, Christmas is back for some reason when she should just be in bed, Ramses and Kevin are father and son and the Vetoads are no more.

Mark's kind of just talking to a wall when he's trying to convince Alex to keep him safe. He tells her that if she keeps him safe he will guarantee safety for her and Jason. That  means nothing, really, because it will take about two weeks before he chooses the showmances over keeping them safe. Alex just nods her head to the point where she looks like a bobble head. The showmance team is her main target at this point, so Mark's plea to her does absolutely nothing. Yes, Alex! That's mama's baby. Dominique also tries to talk to Alex. I'm not sure where the conversation went left but Dominique basically calls Elena and jealous bitch who wants her out of the house. So, yikes...

NOMINATION CEREMONY
The block: Jessica and Dominique

Jessica isn't surprised and vows to win the veto. Dominique feels "betrayed", and "lied to" and I feel...nothing. See you Wednesday, girl. Lol. Elena doesn't give a fuck either just because her dick is safe.

EPISODE GRADE: B
About 15 minutes into the HOH competition I was wondering why the HOH competition was still going on. About 38 minutes into Christmas' monologue about her donated foot and 42 minutes into Kevin and Ramses' father son relationship I remembered that Paul is the only one leading any side of the house right now. Alex is doing her best to show some signs of leadership, but I just feel like Paul won't have a hard time manipulating her all week.

Stray notes:
-"We'll move into their collective and then we'll annihilate them." Look at Alex being as close to a bad bitch as we'll see all season.

-I touched on this in the actual post but Christmas, girl, leave. Go heal.

-Paul really talked about Dominique's "show" like she was Ellen.

-Notice how I called Jessica "Jess" for the first time? Jessica without Cody this week is like Lily without Miley on Hannah Montana. She's instantly more likable when she doesn't use words that start with a 'C'. With the probability of Cody winning the battle back, I'm cool with seeing this chill side of Jessica for as long as she'll give it to us.
