Let's not beat around the bush: Selena Gomez is not a particularly strong vocalist. You know this, I know this and Selena knows this. Yet somehow with each passing release of hers, I find myself saying "Oh, I like this song." Think about it. Same Old Love, Hands to Myself, We Don't Talk Anymore to keep the list short. What they all have in common is that they're catchy, reliable pop tunes that don't rely on a ton of vocals but on strong production and relatable lyrics.
Although it's not her song, it follows the same pattern. Starting off with a simple acoustic guitar, we get an introduction to Gomez' vocals. As the song builds, a chorus surrounds her voice and leads into a bouncy instrumental break. If you think about it, the song's quite sad. "Who's waking up to drive you home when you're drunk and all alone? It ain't me." Overall it's a really solid tune that will squeeze out quite a few listens from me.
SONG GRADE: B+
