The Voice US: Top 24 Live Playoffs (BLAKE)

Um, well, I liked Zach? I don't know what to say about this category. Clearly Blake is the most entertaining of the four judges, he is a fun mentor who is clearly amazing to work with if you're a country singer on this show but his category is pretty much below average this season. With the exception of Zach who whipped his dick out on the table with a stellar performance and told everyone to eat rocks and stay mad about it, I don't see his category going too far this year. Blake's cool though so maybe he can turn this sinking ship around?

IVONNE ACERO
Ugh, I groaned when I heard Ivonne was doing "One of Us." It, much like I Hope You Dance, is just one of those criminally overused songs in these singing competitions used to try and achieve "moments" for the contestants. It was an interesting reconstruction to the song but the beginning of the song lacked vocal control, her voice sounded very shaky and she looked a little uncomfortable in my opinion. As she hit the chorus, her voice sounded more comfortable as she begun belting her notes. She sounded very theatrical with her husky tone. I don't think this was the right song for her but she had a few moments and by the end she hit a few solid notes. Just a few. 7/10

MORGAN FRAZIER
So Morgan is super country. I'm not that big of a country fan so I'll try to be impartial here. She has an alright voice, but her performance just looked like she was doing weak impersonation of The Dixie Chicks. She looks like a viable country artist but at the same time I say that about most of the country singers on this show. The problem with me saying they'd be a good country artist is that when I do say that, I'm basically seeing the same thing in their performance. Meaning they're not really doing anything all that original. She's alright and she might even find her way into the top 12 but there wasn't anything very special about the girl.  6.5/10

ZACH SEABAUGH
I can't speak on him, either, because I only saw three seconds of his voice but what I heard wasn't very bad but it wasn't impactful as well. I get immediately sketched out as I see an attractive white guy coming on one of these competitions because the demographics are either really old or really young and old ladies and young girls just eat that up. He seems cool enough and he clearly has a voice on him. I don't feel as comfortable reviewing this because I don't find type of voice very easy on my ears but this dude is so smooth, like man! He started out flirting with the audience and immediately as he did that drop kick I quietly when "Ooh shit." He knows how to work this audience, his little ad libs were hilarious and just as hilarious were his Elvis Presley pelvis swivels. And I'm a sucker for a killer end and got a case of life when he jumped at the end. Nice job yo. Way to gyrate your pelvis with your mother in the room. 8.5/10

NADJAH NICOLE
It was funny when Blake was saying that the song showed the playful side to her as she was singing the song with her hands at her side, moving to the beat as if she was one of the robot characters at Chuck E Cheese. I haven't seen much of her, with her being a comeback artist. I didn't find anything special about the performance it seemed a little flat and lacked the sass that the song was supposed to command. This wasn't a bad performance...just not the performance you're going to give us if 12 people are going home this week. 5/10

EMILY ANN ROBERTS
I think this is the girl that I gave the #20 spot in my rankings orginally, I'm not sure. I don't know. I should love her but I just find something a little irritating about her voice. Technically, note wise shes a good singer but I just seem to hear screeching when she holds her notes out and I don't like screeching. Also I just think she's boring. She has a lovely head voice, though. Yup. Better than last performance, at least. 6.5/10

BARRETT BABER
I liked this dude in his Knockout, he just gives me a very Tate Stevens vibe (X Factor Season 2 winner. Don't remember him? Exactly). I just think it's going to be the same from him every week and clearly the same thing will get tiring. I'm not tired of him yet so the performance was just enough for me to handle this week. He kept pointing to behind with his right hand for some reason. He has a decent voice and seems very good for the country route he's headed in. I'm not too familiar with country so, I mean, maybe. But it was a pretty strong performance. You better drive that truck, Barrett! I loved the bridge and he seemed to be so overcome with emotion and so enchanced by the song by the end that it drew me in. He's cool. I just couldn't really take a song called "I'll Drive Your Truck" too seriously, though. 7.5/10
