Welcome to #SurvivorSaturday: X Factor UK edition! Just a quick disclaimer that everything down below are my personal opinions. I'm in no way affiliated with any corporation, especially X Factor, Syco, or iTV.
What is Survivor? Alright, so I do recaps of performances for various singing shows and I give my two cents but Survivor is where I put my ten cents in and try and give the contestants a bit of advice (even though they're clearly not reading this) about what they can do to stay in the competition.
Last season, these posts were simply titled "Survivor", but I'm trying something new out so bare with me! Everything down below is not only referring to said contestant's previous performance, but their overall history in the competition. This is basically what I think they can do to get through to the next round and whether or not I think they're safe or not. On to Survivor!
GIRLS:
Well my my, how the bottom dwellers are beginning to fly. Emily (and Simon) took everything that was fantastic about her and gave it all to her performance of 'Creep', last week. Her voice fit the song perfectly and the production was absolutely outstanding. Looks like she can give a great performance even without the guitar! After being safe continuously after she delivered very average performances before this week, 'Creep' should give her a few more weeks of safety even if she goes back down to her average performances. I'm hoping she doesn't and this is the beginning of a redemption arc for her!
SAM LAVERY
Emily soared, Sam snored this week. There's something very special about her but there's something that seems to fall flat every week. Don't know what else there is to say about Sam other than her and Simon need to gather herself up quite and remind us why she was selected to be in the top twelve!
OVERS:
N/A.
Couldn't be happier to say that Saara's been doing great in the show so far. Obviously, she's Sharon's only (fair) shot at winning this season. Her performances are always interesting and she is definitely a very interesting character. Unfortunately, I think it's a major possibility she has to be on her absolute top game every week. If she falls right below magic the audience just rejects her.
BOYS:
MATT TERRY
Don't hurt me for saying this, but the magic of Matt is starting to wear off (for me, anyways). Matt has a killer voice but last week (when everyone thought he was flawless), I thought the tone of his voice came off as pretty annoying. I just really don't like when singers rely so heavily on their falsetto and Matt's just one of those singers. He has major talent and deserves a spot here, so it's not like I'm mad he's still there, I'm just saying that I'm beginning to not feel him as much as I did a few weeks ago.
I don't know what to say at this point. Two really strong contestants went home because the Life Line vote saved him twice in a row. I don't want to be rude, so I'm just gonna say he has great hair and leave it at that. You have great hair, Ryan.
5 AFTER MIDNIGHT
Still my favorite act in the competition. I think every week there's something really special about them. If the vocals aren't there, they always give one heck of a performance. They're true entertainment, unlike Honey G/Bratavio (acts you'd prefer to see hit their face on the stage because it'd be funny rather than expect them to hit a good note). They seem safe to me!
I'm happy the judges are giving these girls second and third chances, because they do have potential. At the same time, it's the fifth week. They need to start tapping into some of that potential. When they're up against Relley and Gifty in the sing off, and they're chosen because of what they have the possibility of being capable of and the other two have already shown what they're capable of and more...it starts to becoming a question of will they ever actually reach their full potential. And someone please tell the blond one who keeps belting that her voice is not as good as she thinks it is. Good lord.
